Fifth Week Of The Year!

Apologies for the delay this week. I was away from my PC all day yesterday, and didn't want to do the finicky work of posting from a new-to-me device. But here's the fifth entry for The Floating City, which might be the closest to an actual dungeon of all my entries so far.

Today we're focusing on the Lighthouse, the tallest structure in Atasiar. It is a working lighthouse, so I agonized over whether to make it accessible to the public, but I figured in an economy as small as the city's, why the heck not. Besides, the Sea Wardens are proud of their capabilities, and can surely protect this one building from unauthorized incursion, even if it does welcome paying guests for the hourly guided tours.

As to why someone would break into the Lighthouse, that I'll leave up to GMs. Perhaps they need to flash a signal out to sea (or to land!) Perhaps they're trying to get their hands on a submersible. Infiltration doesn't even have to be in the form of visitors breaking away from a public tour, as there are civilian researchers and maintenance crew with access. Tho I do rather wonder whether including the latter is a mistake. Oh well, GMs are always free to edit!

As the Lighthouse is staffed 24/7, there will always be NPCs for the party to encounter. I didn't want to specify loot tho, as I'll leave that up to the GM. In fairness, the only physical loot I think PCs might be trying to get out of here that they couldn't get more easily elsewhere are the submersibles: everything else is knowledge and access. And even then they'd have to have specialized knowledge in how to use one, as a submersible is quite different to crew from the usual boat or ship. So while this is still far from being a traditional dungeon, it's still a decent starting point for GMs who want to base a caper on the tallest building of The Floating City, or are looking for an incognito exit point from it.

Essentially, I just really wanted to keep drawing the lighthouse, lol. The sliding pole inside probably isn't very practical but it amused me, and if you can't write and draw to amuse yourself then why bother?
