Sixth Week Of The Year!

Argh, I was halfway through writing this week's entry when my power cut out, and none of the stuff saved. That's a bit indicative of how my week has been going, tbh, as I've been so very busy, and keep finding new things to preempt the usual items on my To-Do list.

But here we are finally! After last week's mini-dungeon, I thought I'd go back to working on the general geography of Atasiar by moving to the other district I've already mentioned in my writing: the Sea Merchant's District:

The Sea Merchant's District is the main funnel point for pedestrians from the Public Docks, with the entrance above being the largest and most easily accessible for those following the ascending main road and sea wall. I wanted to make it a point to include the Office of Consumer Passage, which not only offers registration services for outbound passengers but also gives them the opportunity to examine the records of ships they're booking passage on. The last thing I want is for Atasiar to be a hotbed of piracy. The dockmaster might turn a blind eye to registering ships that want to slip in and out incognito, but turning unsuspecting people into cargo is another matter altogether.

Another thing I need to incorporate into future installments is a sort of scribing system where trusted employees take copies of their logs to confirm arrivals in other known points of the Floating World. I'll have to figure out and fine tune that system later. I also forgot to mention here that Passage Lane is where the bulk of commercial passage is bought and sold. As canny merchants go 24 hours, the buildings are all at least two storeys with lodgings overhead, to ensure maximum convenience.

Lodgings, ofc, are an important matter in a port town, as is resupplying. I decided to have two large establishments located right at the entrance to the Sea Merchant's District, taking advantage of their prime location to jack up prices. Granted, they also provide excellent service and quality, but I'm happy to have their bitter merchant rivals keep the mean names alive.

We'll learn a lot more about the family that runs Chito's Emporium and Cintra's Inn in the next two installments. As you can see, this is only a small section by the main entrance. I'm really looking forward to writing about the Open Air Market soon, too. Ooh, I might even draw a table for that!

Okay, back to watching the Arsenal game and trying not to scream too much bloody murder. See you in five!
